AIGA Quoted – Porsche Experimental type design
AIGA [American Institute of Graphic Arts] invited Superfried design studio to contribute to their daily Quoted series. Each designer submits five typographic illustrations of famous design related quotes to appear on the home page Monday to Friday of a specified week.
Most designers had developed a single style to be applied across all five days. I decided it would be more interesting and challenging to create bespoke typography for each quote.
Good design should be honest.
Ferdinand Porsche
The quote was intriguing. Since he was a designer of products, it led to the question: What is the simplest form of design and construction? This led to the idea of children's building blocks.
With a style chosen the construction of the letterforms was restricted to the use of only standard geometric shapes that would be potentially used for toy blocks. The quote uses the word 'honest', so the traditional material for this product, wood, was very apt.
